Helen DeRamus

My paintings reflect my passion for color, architectonic and organic shapes, and last but not least, texture. Studying with and influenced by Abstract Expressionist painters at the beginning of my art career, I still see their influence in my brushwork and my attention to the importance of translating my inner spiritual life through my images.

I am currently working in traditional encaustic which consists of pigment, beeswax and dammar resin. The paintings have many layers and their surfaces are very sculptural thanks to the use of an impasto medium. The format of the circle in the square came originally from NASA photos of the earth.

I consider myself an intense, energetic and reflective artist and think those characteristics resonate in my work.
