Debra Dowden-Crockett

I have always loved to create. Since childhood, I have sought ways to capture the beauty that I see around me. I have always held a deep passion for nature – especially plants and flowers. I am amazed by the intricate beauty that can be found in a single flower petal. It is this beauty and intricacy that I want to try to duplicate in just some small way and keep forever. I used to try to capture nature’s beauty in painting and sketches, but in the last few years I have found a new medium in glass which has captured my imagination and focus. Glass is a fascinating medium which can be shaped and sculpted with fire into beautiful colors seeming to glow with life. Glass allows me to create small details and to mix a wide variation of colors enabling me to follow each inspiration. My objective for the art glass that I create is to replicate some of the beauty nature offers us in a small object that can be held, worn, and cherished forever.

Each of my pieces is lovingly created by hand in my studio from an inspiration, idea, or thought. Every bead and piece of jewelry I design and construct is one-of-a-kind and seems to have its own personality, not only through the creative process, but as a final work of art. I want my art to be a reflection of the emotion and the passion that I feel for the colors, shapes, textures, and variety found in abundance in nature. It is this goal that sustains me and fulfills me as an artist.
