William E Jewell

WILLIAM JEWELL has spent much of his life exploring the mountains, forests and deserts of America. His deep appreciation for nature has provided both balance and healing in his life.
Throughout his travels, Jewell continues to be inspired by artists like George Nakashima, the great Japanese - American woodworker internationally known for his innovative furniture designs and meditative architectural interiors.
Jewell's medium varies from highly figured hardwoods and burled woods, cactus skeletons from deserts and other materials from around the world. The design of his pieces is adjusted to the natural features of the wood, so the design features the wood — not the other way around.
Jewell's distinct woodworking style, characterized by slabs of free-edged wood, is evident in his high quality tables, benches and accessories. No two pieces are alike.
The spirit of his work, according to Jewell, serves as a remembrance and appreciation for the many mysteries of nature.
"I believe that by resurrecting these pieces of nature — by giving them a second life as works of art — they can once again be appreciated for the magnificent creations they once were."
William Jewell works from his private studio in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
