Kevin Elliott

Kevin Elliott is an ex-pat Briton living near Munich, Germany. A keen photographer for many years, he found that straight photography was too restrictive for his creative spirit and branched out into Polaroid SX-70 manipulations.

Some of the enthusiasm rubbed off onto his wife, Shelley, who has also created some fine manipulations - a few of which are offered here.
The Polaroid manipulations are carried out by hand, using a variety of styli on the original polaroid image. As the film is no longer available from polaroid, this form of art will die - except as reproductions - in the near future, once existing stocks of flim are exhausted.

Computer work on these images is kept to a minimum, limited to touching up scans, adjusting colours and brightness, and the occasional slightly more detailed adjustment.

More recent work involves experimentation with the Sabattier Effect (erroneously aka Solarisation) and other related manipulations.

Images are printed on an archival quality Epson printer, using original inks to ensure longevity. Papers are selected to suit the image being printed, usually Hahnemühle fine art papers.

All prints are individually signed, dated and made by the artist.

Larger versions can be produced to special order (up to 24"/600mm in the smallest dimension) depending on the original, these need to be discussed individually as not all images are suitable for this.

The polaroid SX-70 series of cameras orignated about 35 years ago. They were revolutionary as the image developed in daylight while you watched. From the moment the film leaves the camera the image is soft and partially fluid, a feature orignally seen as a fault by Polaroid boss Edwin Land. However many artists capitalised on this to produce some striking images. The film has it's own colour palette, somewhat subdued compared to more modern over saturated films - something that adds to the character of the final result.

After manipulation the images are scanned, scanning faults (and the odd manipulation fault) are corrected. Occasionally more correction is needed.

All prints are in limited editions of 25, numbered and signed in pencil on front and back. They are printed on Hahnemühle photo rag with epson archival inks - a combination that should last for 70-100 years framed, without showing visible colour changes. I hate to use the word Giclee - but if it's Giclee printing that you want, this is it.

Size is based on 13x19" paper, with a small border around the image to allow space for signature, framing and matting.

I'm not a city person. I prefer God's creations - space, mountains, lakes and trees and flowers. I like to watch the weather, the clouds and the seasons and capture them for others to enjoy.

These images represent some of my most precious memories and are presented here for you to share.
