“The inspiration for my designs comes from nature, dreams, and life experiences. I strive to produce unexpected forms that not only reveal the exotic character of the wood but also are creative, playful and able to stand the test of time. Special modifications and effects like coloring and texturing, and the use of materials other than wood, are sometimes included to achieve the wanted presentation.”
Hollow Forms: The Footed Vessel
My footed vessel series was developed in 2001 during my residency at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. In looking for a way to raise a turned object up off the ground, I came up with this foot idea. The feet not only raised the piece off the ground, but also allowed the pieces to lean and create movement. I enjoyed the leaning effect as much if not more than the uplifting effect the feet could create. I had to make more.
