Bj. de Castro

"Success follows your passion, so brave your life a smile".............bj.

There are different opinions, as to where an artist's desire is born. Some say, "a schooled regimen", and others prefer...'a gift from God', 'a natural talent', or, 'an over-active right side'. Personally, I believe that everyone is born with a specific passion to help them with a life that smiles. I encourage "I hate my life"-ers to believe in their's. Passion has no respect for time. Learning, practice, failures and success all seem to take simple moments. My passion is art!

"I followed my passion for realism through the mediums of pencil, charcoal, pastel, watercolor and oils. My methods and techniques can be generalized into one word...'transparency'. I work with multiple layers of paint, which requires patience between applications. I find this gives me incredible depth and luminosity in my paintings. I am a true purist with my work-including, no use of masking fluids or tapes in my watercolor pieces. "What is white is the paper..." was an attraction I found through my use of charcoal and I have followed that passion through to the other mediums. Reading the eyes of animals, for years, gave way to telling stories of travels-through the portraiture of beautiful and historical places visited. I hope my art is a reminder of your own story there, or, encourages you to go make one"…bj

As a perfectionist, Bj. de Castro takes control of her print production. She takes as long as necessary to get a perfect reproduction of the original. Each new Giclee Print is perfected, proofed, signed and packaged by the artist, herself.

What is a Giclee? The Giclee printers spray over 1 million droplets per second onto the selected substrate, which is higher than a traditional lithographic print and has a wider color gamut than serigraphy. There are no screens used with this method of reproduction hence, Giclee Prints render deep, saturated colors and have a beautiful painterly quality that retains minute detail, subtle tints and blends. The preciseness of the printing along with the depth of color range captures the subtleties and nuances of an original image be it watercolor, oil or acrylic. The inks used to create these prints usually boast an archival life of over 100 years!

Prints on Canvas: All Giclee Prints on canvas come with a border to be either mounted on stretchers and framed. Or, mounted under a mat, glass and framed. Canvas prints are numbered (if applicable) on the image in the lower left or right hand corner. All canvas prints are sprayed with a UV protective coating and varnish. The very best way to ship canvas is rolled - print side out in a tube. Bj. de Castro prefers this method with the exception of pieces already stretched or Framed Art, which is shipped flat. Your local frame shop can stretch the canvas-or, you can do it yourself. Stretcher strips can be purchased at any art supply store. However, you can email Bj. at http://bjdecastro.com , if you would like her to stretch your canvas for you. Additional fees will apply. Most of Bj. de Castro's canvas prints are sized to fit Standard (over-the-counter) frames, when mounted on stretcher bars.

Prints on Paper: All Giclee Prints on paper come with a border to be mounted under mat, glass and framed. All paper prints should always be framed this way. Within that border-under the image, is the artist's signature and/or number and title of the piece in pencil. Prints on paper are not varnished. Most prints on paper are shipped flat. Larger prints shipped rolled in tube will flatten (usually on thier own) and should be removed from tube upon receipt. Most of Bj.'s paper prints are sized to fit Standard (over-the-counter) mat and frames. Be sure to take the print with you to the store to make your selection, so that you can match the mat opening size. You may, or may not choose to show the art markings in pencil underneath. If you are framing it yourself and you do want to show the art markings, it is easy to trim the bottom portion of the store-bought mat to accommodate. Size Example: 9"x12" image size on 11"x14" paper will generally frame out to a 16"x20" total size.
