Metal Quilts and Mirrors are created to challenge the boundaries of traditional quilting. Kim and Will construct the wall hangings out of enameled copper.
Will hand cuts each piece from a 100-lb. roll of roofing copper and shapes it with a bench shear. He then designs the layout with bare copper on a stretched canvas. Kim individually enamels each piece by sifting dry, powdered glass onto the copper and then firing it in a 1500° Farenheit kiln. Then Will and Kim finish the pieces by "sewing" them onto foam-filled canvas with steel pins.
